Hi Graham,

I think BASIC could be at the top of the list if all the independent BASIC developers somehow pulled together and worked to put out a true cross platform SuperBasic (superB) that had the power and capabilities of the new c++11 standard. The new standard is really moving hard toward a cleaner look and modern features. Perhaps it might inspire the next generation of language developers.

Kent...
If i may say something
I will this time start differently...
Idea about 'United Basic' or like you say 'superB'
is great if you ask me
because long time BASIC is promoted as language for
beginners only with many 'limitations' with many ,many
dialects wich follow same paradigma..right?
Some of them are comercial and i doubt that any of them
want to contribute in something like this.
On the other hand ther are freeware and most of
authors are not interested to release source code ,right?
Even if not give any monex from this, right to...?
In that kind of environment BASIC is going to 'end OF strory'.
That is the FACT.
The truth is that even you want find 10 people
(developers) who might be interested for something like
this i really doubt that would work.
From another point you can not restore BASIC as some sort
of hybrid between C/C++ & BASIC.
What would be that 'basiC' ? ;D
And last thing there is no quite enough interest for almost
anything like few years ago,right...!
Uff ...to much words for nothing ..i guess.. :-\

I understand what you are saying Aurel. That is why perhaps the next generation of language developers growing up with c++11 and not seeing old c or winapi code and growing up in a cross platform world could eventually write the kind of BASIC that is needed in today's environment.  Being backward 1980's compatible is not a good idea for a foundation.

I think c++11 is a big step. They days of c++ code being 500 lines long while other languages could do it in 25 is at its end finally, when full support for this standard is out and books for it come out.
