You can use ANY coding language you like so long as the Software can be run on Windows XP or Vista or Windows 7, or Linux (sorry for 95, 98, ME, 2000, Mac, and other Platforms)

The Entry must be your (or your Team's) own work. You must have the rights to Distribute all content. (sound,Graphics, dll's, engines etc.. etc) If you don't then don't include it. Link to where you can get it in Dependencies

So Coding Monkeys is looking for Sponsors to help supply some prizes .. We are hoping to get Marketers of Coding related Software to Provide some. (This will be a great way for them to get their products / Name out to potential coders) If you would like to or know of someone who would like to help sponsor this or future contests them please contact monkey1@codingmonkeys.com with your details

Your Entries (yes you can enter in any / all categories multiple times .. but can only claim one prize category if you win you'll be awarded your highest .. if you get the same rank in multiple categories then you can choose which one you want to claim..)

Entries must not have been released prior to the start of the competition.. (eg: you can't enter old coding that have been entered into other contests or distributed anywhere else including here on CodingMonkeys)

No . Mods and levels etc for existing software don't count as an entry

All entries to contain (in a Zip file) the distributable (eg: .exe), media, screen shot and source code (which will remain yours to decide what to do with at the end of the contest.. Source code needed to confirm its your own work. It will not be issued out to the community unless you state you wish to do so.)

All entries are to be emailed to monkey1@codingmonkeys.com. they shall all remain hidden until the 31st January (to keep your ideas from the competition.. you can of course decide to share ideas or code if you like) then the entries will be stripped of the source code and then placed in a special downloads area for members to Download and Vote .. (all entries will be scanned for Viruses prior to being placed for download)

Entries will be Judged by your fellow community members. (only one Vote per IP address / Member will be accepted per category)

Voting will end on the 28th of February

The contest may be Canceled only If I don't get at least 3 entries in each category (after all i can't give out prizes if there are no entries ;) )

Thanks Cameron for the info.

Besides using programming languages, are the following tools allowed to be used for creating games?

1) Unity3D
2) Torque3D, Torque 2D
3) GameMaker
4) Shiva3D

Best wishes
Michael

Am I allowed to release something between March 1st, 2010 and January 31st, 2011 and still enter it in the contest? That is how I read it.

So long as Coding IS involved .. ie: in .scripts .lua to make the game run / play.. not just for say saving vairables or a manafest or ini file.. if you follow..

as for pre releeasing i guess so so long as its not infringing any copywrite by me putting it up on my site .. eg: you write soimething and enter a sales agreement elsewhere or something like that.. there are some sites out there that sort of claim stuff when its posted on them too.. so be carefull..

thats why i stated that no posting anywhere else till after the contest judging..

also remembver that then othewrs can see what they are up against.. and may even steal your ideas but its up to you.. I just don't want any legal hastles / issues.. so i'm just trying to cover where i've seen contests come unstuck before.

Also I wopuldn't suggest entering it into other contests either unless they state its ok too.. (some get very sticky about things)
ie: winning multiple contests with the same code/ project.. I myself see nothing wrong with this .. just look at the movies and music industry.. multiple nominations and winnings

As for anyone or company looking to become a sponsor.. They tell me what they want to offer and for what preize and catagory.. then we discuss it.. and come to an agreement.

eg: they could state that they'd like to be in partners for first place.. ie: if there are 2 coding lannguages then they might decide to give the winner the choice of their language or the other one and then the other may be delegated for second place winner.. (BOTH language providers would have to agree for this to happen) .. or they could state they want the winner to get both .. its really up to the sponsors ..

but i do like the idea of 1place chooses their price and the rest falls through so to speak .. also a comnbo of both would be great too..

I will have to do something for this. I am not any good at 3D stuff so the 2D or Non Game (maybe both) will be what I am going to shoot at.
