Yes, Delphi 6 and 7 were the best versions I think. 7 is still supported and runs on Win7/Win8?
I remember devleoping my editor IndeED with Delphi6.  :)

Mike,
You might be a handy fellow to know :)

Yes. 7 runs on Win7 except it's running in compatibility mode as 32bit. My eventual aim is to understand what it will take to write extensions that will allow 64bit compilation.
FWIW, do you know of any software out there that will compile a 32bit program into 64bit?

No, in my oppinion, it has to be compiled like that from the start. Did you ever look into Freepascal and Lazarus?

I am commenting about Lazarus and not just stand alone FreePascal:

The windows version works well, but then taking your code to other platforms-- I could not get it to work.

I have installed it on ubuntu and linux mint, but each time it gives an error starting up, but it let's me compile.
I don't feel comfortable with the results and have not taken the code written in linux to test compile on other platforms.

I know it works in OSX pretty well too.  So from my experience,  Windows and OSX work pretty well, but cross-platform migration
I could not get.

I had the same experience with Lazarus. Works good on Windows and OSX but compiling a project cross on the other I could not get compiled too.
I also could not get the COCOA controls to work in the OSX version.
FreePascal I used only on Windows and till this day it works fine.

So far I find D7 has about all I could want where math functions and 2D graphics are concerned. I'm sure, if I went at it with some fervor, I could create a 3D DLL. It would be like reinventing the wheel, but what the heck?

I'm hoping to issue a new maintenance release to the IWBasic 3.x IDE in the next few weeks and Larry Sikes has released an update to the Linux version of IWBasic and is currently working on the 64bit version of IWBasic.  Progress should speed up since he has retired and has apparently resolved his m
