Tightening of guest access yet again
« on: May 21, 2010, 09:36:47 AM »
ok. as of today i've had to tighten guest access yet again to Codingmonkeys.

its a shame that because of the actions of one or 2 guests that now guests can only read messages.

which is only a very small portion of the services provided here on codingmonkeys.

if guestd keep trying to take advantage of my generosity this site may become a registered members only site. (which some have stated it should be all along).

registered membership to CodingMonkeys is FREE all it takes is a valid email address and honesty. If you want me to trust you to use my site then you too must trust me with your details.

back when i started coding monkeys i was told that making it a members only site was a bad thing. I could see the writting on the wall through my experiances on prevous communities and prior to that BBS's . Now days MOST sites require you to ber a member to do anything apart from looking at the front page. It hasn't quite cometo that here yet but its almost there. It won't take much to tighten the belt that last notch.

So for all guests coming to coding monkeys take care and don't abuse the system or you'll wreck it for all guests.

I do not think is a horrible thing to restrict write access to the forum to unregistered users. IMHO  :)

sad but necessary . one blog i follow has had to introduce moderation because of constant advert spam by a couple of chinese shops and factories (in chinese script on an english language site?),that blogger posts everything relevant including personal abuse.
There is no excuse for mucking up a good mainly single interest site like this.

The Web is a pretty nasty place these days.

Unregistered users should have minimal facilities in my view.

Best wishes, :)
